Dear Friends of the Chattanooga Bach Choir and Orchestra:

We are very excited to bring to you the 2024-2025 season of Chattanooga Bach Choir and Orchestra as we celebrate our 40th year!

Since 1985 the Bach Choir has enhanced the cultural landscape of our area with memorable live performances of the magnificent choral and instrumental music of J.S. Bach and many others. Under the direction of David Long, for the past 19 years, the Bach Choir has expanded its offerings to include a series of Cantata concerts featuring these spiritual gems in Bach’s repertoire. We look forward to building on the choir’s extraordinary legacy as we offer beautiful music in some of our city’s finest live venues.

The Bach Choir and Orchestra will open the 40th season with a celebration Masterworks concert on Saturday, November 9 at 7:30pm at Grace Episcopal Church. The program will feature works that were important in the early years of the choir and will honor the legacy of founding director J. James Greasby. Our second Masterworks program will be equally exciting with the featured work being the Missa Solemnis of Ludwig van Beethoven. This will be the final program with our illustrious founding concertmaster Mr. Mark Reneau and will take place on Saturday, March 29 at 7:30pm. The venue for this concert will be the beautiful and resonant sanctuary of Covenant Presbyterian Church in East Brainerd. A part of this concert will be the endowing of the concertmaster chair in honor of Mr. Reneau. We invite you to join in supporting this effort by making a contribution toward the endowment in his honor.

The Cantata Series will continue with two offerings this season celebrating the 300th Anniversary of Bach’s cantatas in Leipzig, focusing on the famous chorale cantatas of 1724-25. On January 5, 2025 at 5:00pm the concert will feature Cantata 58 for the First Sunday in New Year and Cantata 123 for Epiphany. The second Cantata Series concert will be offered on May 18, 2025 at 7:30pm and will feature Cantata 108 written for the Fourth Sunday after Easter. Both of the Cantata Series concerts will take place in the intimate and musically rewarding nave of Christ Episcopal Church.

We rely on your annual donations to continue the Bach Choir’s mission to provide outstanding music in our community. Please consider a tax-exempt donation to the Bach Choir’s Annual Fund (general support) or the J.
