Bach Choir Gala: Celebrating 40 Years of Music

For four decades, the Chattanooga Bach Choir has brought audiences music of depth, complexity, and brilliance. This year, the organization marks its 40th anniversary with the Bach Choir Gala, a festive evening filled with music, fine dining, and a celebration of those who have shaped its artistic excellence.

The gala takes place on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 6:00–9:00 p.m. at The Westin Chattanooga (800 E. Pine Street). Guests will enjoy the convenience of valet parking and have access to a cash bar throughout the evening.

Honoring Artistic Milestones

This year’s event is not just a celebration of the ensemble’s history but also of two key figures who have shaped its sound. The evening will honor Artistic Director David Long, now in his 20th season, as well as violinist Mark Reneau, the Bach Choir’s esteemed concertmaster, who is retiring after more than 35 years with the orchestra.

John Wigal, President of the Bach Choir, reflects on the occasion:

“We invite our supporters and music lovers to join us for an evening of camaraderie and music in support of the Chattanooga Bach Choir. Now in its 40th season, the Bach Choir continues to bring choral and orchestral masterpieces to our community. This year, we also celebrate two artists who have given decades of extraordinary musicianship to the ensemble—David Long, whose artistic leadership has been at the heart of our programming for 20 years, and Mark Reneau, whose artistry as concertmaster has been essential to our orchestra for more than three decades.”

The night begins with a cocktail reception, offering guests a chance to gather before dinner. The meal will feature Italian cuisine with expertly selected wine pairings, making for an experience that blends musical and culinary artistry. A cash bar will be available throughout the evening.

Adding to the festivities, a Silent Auction will feature an array of items and experiences, offering attendees the chance to support the Bach Choir while bidding on unique finds. The evening would not be complete without live musical performances, provided by the Bach Choir’s singers and instrumentalists, ensuring that music remains at the center of the celebration.
